   More Rider Information

2010 Course is now set.

2010 Event:

This is a mountain bike event where you challenge yourself, the elements and the clock over two circuits of approx. 40   and 60 Km kilometres each.

In order to cater for more riders and various levels of mountain bike skills we have two tracks which will interlock at various stages throughout the course.

Please read carefully as are some changes to this year's event:

  • Championship Track "C" = distance is 60 km
  • Social Track "S" = distance is 40 km
  • The start time this year has been moved forward to 11am on Saturday, as we want to finish during daylight (for obvious safety reasons)
  • The next morning the course will be run in reverse (Sunday Start at 7am - so get up early!!), and that is where you can challenge yourself, your time from the day before, and the overall result
  • With more 'private property' being utilised for the course, various sections of the track have been/will be marked with arrows so as to avoid last any panic about where to go. There will be a trial run on both the "C" and "S" courses to make sure the markings are clear
  • Event Date = Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th September 2010
  • Cost = $100 per rider.  If Late Registration, fee is $120.
  • Finish: The presentation will commence at 12 noon on Sunday, 26th September at the start and finish location.
  • I have invited all landlords to join the rider and officials for a BBQ lunch. The BBQ will be run be the Capertee Rural Bush Fire Brigade.

The course is set up and awaiting your challenge, but please note some simple house keeping for everybody’s benefit:

  • The START/FINISH location is approx 9 kilometres down the GLEN DAVIS Road (turn right at 50 meters past the Shell Capertee Roadhouse –we will have a sign out at this turnoff on the Saturday morning)
  • The start/finish area at Mount Airly will be marked out for you and open from 9am onwards. The field of riders is modest so there will be no need for you to rush on the Saturday morning for camping space or registration (registration will be open between 9.00am and 10.30am).
  • Camping is very basic so come prepared. Water is very limited so please BRING YOUR OWN WATER for drinking, washing, cleaning etc.
  • We are on private property so please take rubbish with you when you leave.
  • Mobile phone reception is patchy at best in this area.
  • Wear footwear at all times as it’s in the bush and there are some things that you would rather not step on in bare feet.
  • Please keep to the LEFT when riding on the road sections as others share the road/track.
  • The course goes through private properties. Leave gates AS YOU FIND THEM. We hope that all gates will be open; however, if a gate is closed please close it when you go through.
  • We expect that only 1 vehicle will be on the track with you and that is the DOCTOR. Please allow his passage as someone may need his assistance.
  • If the doctor tells you to stop for medical reasons that is it ... stop.
  • A SWEEP vehicle will follow some distance behind the last rider for safety purposes. If you find that you cannot continue please stop and LEAVE YOUR BIKE ON THE SIDE OF THE TRACK. Don’t stray from the track as we may not be able to find you.
  • Based upon similar events please bring a sense of HUMOUR as it does help.

We hope you will make time to appreciate the scenery along the course and that you find it challenging. You as riders are quite mad for attempting such, but it’s all in the name of charity so we hope that you will enjoy the experience.

PRE-entry will close : Thursday 23 September 2010

Special note from Richard

Our third Capertee Challenge has become just that!

The scenery is magnificant; and as per last year, we are now going through a number of private properties (12) which will pass gates, dams, houses and various pieces of machinery. Whilst it is our intention to man the gates, is not always possible.

So, the rule is, 'If you find a gate open, leave it; if it is closed, then close it after you go through." You as riders may have only have to open/shut a gate or two. Please don't abuse this opportunity to ride through any of private properties, as access to some properties is CLOSED all year round.

Again, locals have volunteered to assist us with this event, so courtesy would be appreciated of those helping out. Note however, some locals think that you are all mad for doing such an event !!!!

Fair Warning: This event will be tougher with more short climbs and quick downhills which appear to be the order of the day - especially when we travel around Genowlan Point - mixed in with some brilliant views and comfortable riding.

DR Hugh will be on course for assistance, along with flag marshalls and a "rotten" sweep - Noel - who will bring up the rear. He is mean and nasty and likes to see riders suffer - he is a Queenslander. 'nuff said! As per last year, the sweep may need to stop riders at a certain point if they may not make it back before time. So it will be a safety decision and not because he doesn't like the look of you.

As per last year, there will be checkpoints. IT IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL for everybody's safety that you make sure you have you name marked off as this year the track covers a more difficult terrain.

Special thanks for the planning the course can be directed towards Mark (Rural Bush Fire) who previously MADE some of the OFF road fire tracks for the fire brigade and has sort access to these tracks from various locals and property owners. Thank you Mark; but as riders, you may not wish to thank him afterwards.

Riders should carry water as it does get tough in some sections.

We hope to have a Teams section included within the same event for a bit of extra fun.

All please remember that this is a CHARITY event; so by riding, you are helping others - those being the Paraplegic Benefit Fund, and the Capertee District Progress Assoc.
